It amazes me to know that this is the ninth year that Steven and I have spent Valentine’s Day as a couple. For the past nine, we usually have a quiet evening at home. I still remember the first Valentine’s Day we celebrated together. It was 2015 and he was living in an apartment downtown. He invited me over and told me that he would cook dinner for me.

When I got to his apartment, he was in the middle of cooking his famous spaghetti and had a ton of gifts waiting for me on the countertop. Because he lived above the mall, I swear it looked like he went into every single store and picked something out for me from each. Before I got to his place, he had sent roses to my house and a big box full of hot Cheetos (my favorite all-time snack is hot Cheetos. I always have a few bags on deck). Ever since then, we have always opted to spend Valentine’s Day at home, where it’s just the two of us.

This year, I wanted to do something different. After all, the key to a long-lasting marriage is keeping things fresh and spontaneous, right? Believe it or not, every time we go out my husband is the one that makes the reservations ahead of time. So this time, I wanted to surprise him by taking the reins treating him to dinner, and paying the check (which is also something I hardly ever do).

One of the reasons I love to work and make my own money is to spoil my husband since he spoils me so much. We can’t call ourselves a power couple if one of us is living off the other’s paycheck. He knows how hard I work for mine. So when I buy him things, pay bills, or take him out it gives me a sense of pride knowing that I got it and it’s not coming out of his bank account. Also, he deserves to be spoiled just as much as I am and it wouldn’t be the same if I’m treating him off of the money that he transfers to my account. If that was the case, that man would be buying his own gifts and taking himself out to dinner. Insert crying laughing emoji here.

I made reservations at The Wild Rose. It’s a cute little duck-off spot that I love to go to because it’s an upscale restaurant with the most amazing food and it’s never packed. Surprisingly, even my picky husband loves it.

He was shocked once I forwarded him the confirmation email. I wish you could have seen his face. He was shocked I made a reservation on my own! Since we were going out, you know I had to get a festive Valentine’s Day outfit. Once we got there, they had a preset Valentine’s Day menu which we were lucky enough that they included all of our favorites.

Bag: Coperni
Our dinner included appetizers, soup, salad, a main course, and a dessert that we shared. Not only was my belly full, but my heart was too. I had an incredible night with my best friend talking about our kids, our goals, and laughing at each other’s jokes.

When we got home, the kids were sleeping so we decided to keep the night going with a bottle of wine and end our night quiet and intimately like we’ve done the past nine years.

The Wild Rose is such a good spot. I love all the details of this date night and the cute outfit you chose! Perfect Valentine’s Day vibes for a night on the town!
