This year I started a new tradition with Jaylen for birthdays. Saying goodbye to the last year in balloon form. I wanted to do a mommy and me shoot like I have done with Cayden in the past and took the opportunity to have a balloon blown up with my baby’s last age number so that we can let it go and fly away.

I think the symbolism of it is such a cute idea. Letting the balloon go and watching it fly away just like time has been flying by as we watch our little one step into his new chapter — chapter two.

I love photoshoots that let my kids do whatever they feel like doing and capturing them in the most candid and honest way. From the second we got to the location, Jaylen was free. I loved the way knelt down to pick flowers for me, the way he ran through the grass, the way he was excited to hold the balloon, and my most favorite moment, the way he cuddled with me for comfort when he heard the sounds of thunder as they rolled in.

The second child is always the most wild. Jaylen is not as affectionate as Cayden so these little moments where he runs to me and asks for hugs or cuddles may be less than what I’m used to with my first but it makes me savor the moment even more so I’m glad I was able to do this photoshoot with him.

Looking at these photos, I really just sit back and thank God for giving me such a beautiful, healthy baby boy when it was said that he wouldn’t make it. He may be giving us a run for our money with all of that energy and attitude but I wouldn’t want it any other way. The fact that he is here and full of life and keeping us on our toes is one of my biggest blessings that I will never take for granted.

We always joke that we started the terrible two’s when Jaylen was six months old but luckily for us, as he’s eased his way into his second chapter, he’s started to take a page from his older brother’s book and has calmed down a whole lot. Won’t he do it?

Even though I have two boys, I love that they each have their own quirks, their own personalities, their own attitude, and tempers. It’s allowed me to grow as a mother and has pushed my patience to a new level that has prepared me to deal with the terrible two’s.

I can’t wait to start planning our next mommy and me shoot for chapter three. I hope he and his brother allow me to keep doing these every year until they turn 18. We’ll see…
