This week one of my IG friends posted a quote along the lines of not letting the fear of people thinking you’re “cringe” stop you from doing things that can better your situation. I’ve always known that people will have their opinions about you and I personally think you might as well dance to the beat of your own drum and dance like no one is watching. As long as what you’re doing makes you happy and gives you something to look forward to every single day nothing else should matter.
The quote went on to say that what people may not know is, that the cringe thing that you are doing, may land you your dream job, may better your financial situation, buy you your dream home, and even provide generational wealth. But you’ll never have a shot if you’re worried about other people’s perception of you.
That cringe thing may be you going back to school to get a degree in your 30’s, it may be downsizing to invest in something bigger to get you to a work-free life and eventually your dream home. It might be driving an older car that’s paid off instead of a luxury one to be debt-free. Cringe could also be starting a new business and putting yourself out there no matter how silly you may feel.
I’ve started businesses before and loved every minute of it. Sadly, I started an online clothing store when I was a few weeks pregnant and didn’t know it so I had to stop when it finally started to get some traction because I got really sick. After an awful pregnancy I couldn’t run it because my baby took over every minute of my life so I had to give it up. At the same time, I also had a house cleaning business. Scrubbing toilets may sound cringe but you’d be surprised at how much I was making. I’m still thinking about going back into business. Stay tuned.
Working in the career field of digital marketing, I picked up a few ideas which led me to start this blog. I know people out there may think what I’m doing and what I post is cringe but guess what? I couldn’t care less. I love creating content, I love shooting and meeting the amazing artists that are my photographers, I love the feedback that I get from both strangers and friends through my DM’s and email, and best of all — I love getting emails from brands that want to work with me because it lets me know that I am on the right track. Afterall, if it don’t make money it don’t make sense. Am I right?
So stop waiting for the perfect time and go ahead and start that YouTube channel, make those “cringy” reels, start that business, give up anything that’s holding you back and go for it unapologetically because what’s life without a little cringe?
Thank y’all for supporting me and my little corner of the internet. Like always, outfit deets are below!
