Anyone that has curly hair or has a kid with curly hair knows that wash day isn’t for the faint of heart. It is literally a whole process that takes a lot of patience and a lot of time. Because Cayden has my hair type, I have had years of practice. However, his dad is still learning how to manage. While I was pregnant, it was really hard for me to kneel next to the bathtub to wash Cayden’s hair for the entire time. My back would ache and my belly would be in the way so my husband took over and quickly learned how to wash and style our little one’s curls.
But of course, dad’s results are always different from moms, so I started to look for products that would make it easier for all three of us. That’s when I found Shampoo Time. It’s a foldable, cushioned mat that your little one can lay in while watching a show on your phone and getting their hair washed at the same time. The cushion comes with an entertainment bar that comes with a phone holder that is placed right above the mat.
I cannot tell you how relieved I was to find this little invention. No more kneeling by the bathtub only to get up with sore knees and aching backs (especially for my husband who is 6’6). We can now wash Cayden’s hair at the kitchen sink while he’s entertained by his favorite show. My husband, Cayden, and I all love this mat. Cayden hated getting his hair washed before, after trying this mat, he asks to get his hair washed at the sink since he no longer has to sit in the tub for what seems like forever while we detangle, wash, and condition his hair.
It’s so easy to set up, easy to store, and doesn’t take up too much space. And before you ask, yes I bleach out the sink before I wash Cayden’s hair in it. I’m a germaphobe and a clean freak so this is a must every time.
If you know curly hair, then you know you should only wash your hair once a week to keep curls moisturized so that’s how often we wash Cayden’s hair. While looking for new products, I found a hair care line specifically for boys called Young King Hair Care. I’ve seen their ads on Facebook and Instagram but never paid any attention to them until now.
I ended up getting the King’s Court Bundle it includes:
- Shampoo
- Conditioner
- Leave-in Conditioner
- Curling Cream
- Essential oil
My honest opinion about this line is that it’s amazing. Not only does it smell so good, it leaves Cayden’s hair soft and every curl has the perfect ringlet and definition.
To start, I prefer to use Deva Curl’s Wash Day Wonder since it makes detangling so much easier than any product I’ve tried. Instead of rinsing right away, I apply shampoo, after that we rinse the detangler out with the shampoo at the same time. Next, we apply the conditioner and work through any left over tangles, then rinse. After that, we apply the leave-in conditioner, followed by the curling cream. That’s when we pat dry and blow dry. After Cayden’s hair dries, we finish it off by applying the essential oils that give his hair that sheen look.
I like to keep our routines simple so it definitely helps that this line has everything I need and they work together so well. I don’t have to go to separate places to shop for products to work with his hair.
I love the branding, the name, and I can tell we will be sticking to this line for a while for our little king.
