On every trip that Steven and I have taken as a family, we’ve always made it a priority to have at least one date night alone. On our last trip to LA, we decided to have our date night at Mastros in Beverly Hills. Their ambiance and service makes any date romantic. From the dim lighting to the live music, and the side dishes meant to be shared for two, I always leave with a full belly and a great experience thanks to their staff.
I usually have wine with my steak because I like how a good red brings out the taste, but on this night, I chose to go with their blackberry margarita and it did not disappoint. Their assortments of warm bread are so good, but I try not to eat it so I have room for their Uh-Mazing butter cake.
For appetizers we ordered the shrimp cocktail that comes out on dry ice for a smoke effect, a lemon wrapped in this cute yellow mesh, with a side of horseradish and cocktail sauce. These shrimp, by the way, are huge.
I’m the carnivore wife that loves her steak medium-rare and Mastro’s always does a great job at cooking my steak just right. Most places I go to leave a ton of pink and I really hate that. Steven, of course, would be the opposite of me. He is not a fan of red meat, so anytime we go to a steakhouse he’ll order the crab legs (which he enjoys getting at these fancier restaurants because they crack the legs for you so the meat is already out).
For the sharing portion of the sides, we ordered the lobster mashed potatoes and still had a ton of left over, to give you an idea of how big their servings are. My plate may look small, but trust me, I was so stuffed by the time I was done with the main course.
But let’s be honest here, the main reason I wanted to come back to Mastros was for the main event — the warm butter cake with strawberry drizzles, vanilla ice cream, and their made from scratch whipped cream that comes on the side.
Guys, when I tell you this is the best cake you will ever experience in your life, it is not an exaggeration. No matter how stuffed I get, I will unzip my jeans or roll down my spanx to make room for this cake. It’s a pretty big portion too and I always eat at least half of it and end up with a food coma soon after. It is that GOOD.
Even if you just go in to Mastro’s for dessert and have the butter cake, do it. It is so worth it. I would tell you to order it as takeout, but you really enjoy it better at the restaurant because it comes out just the right amount of warm.
Another reason why I wanted to have our date here is because I love walking through Rodeo Dr. And even though it was late at night and all of the shops were closed, we ended our date night with a romantic walk, holding hands, and having some reminiscing conversation about the first time we came to LA when we first started dating.
What beats walking off some of the food at dinner with a little “A Walk to Remember” action right?
