I still can’t believe I was one of those girls that had a bridal shower. I can honestly say this is something that I did not want. Then again, I didn’t want a bachelorette party either but they happened.
My best friend Chelsie brought up the idea in the middle of wedding planning and I remember telling her, “I don’t want one. I hate imposing on people and I don’t want them to feel like they have to be there. Then the whole gift thing… I don’t need anything.” On top of that, I didn’t have any attention or time to spare on planning a bridal shower. The wedding, work, and an active toddler had consumed every ounce of me that even attending another party seemed more stressful than enjoyable to me.
Chelsie insisted— Looking back now, I’m glad she did.
Together, with my mother-in-law, she was able to pull a guest list because after asking me for weeks for a list I could never get to it (which by the way, was the same issue my wedding planner had with me). What can I say? Struggles of a working mama. Thankfully, everyone was able to get their invitation on time. The bridal shower was set for June 8, 2019.
You know how they say good things come to those who wait? I walked into my own bridal shower a whole hour late. When I got there, it felt like I was walking into a Pinterest board. Everything was so pretty, elegant, and perfect. The wine party favors were lined-up against a pretty floral arrangement where a picture of our save the date was shown off.
The cake was also gorgeous. A tall white cake with a pink flower sitting on top. The crystal trays that showed off the cookies made by Summertime Sweets were so eye catching my jaw dropped. I knew Summer would do an amazing job since she did Cayden’s birthday cookies last year but she really outdid herself with these.
For the chocolate covered oreos she created frames as borders, used mine and Steven’s initials, a huge gold engagement ring, hearts with arrows, and others had our wedding date. My eyes watered when I saw them. I couldn’t hide how blown away I was. I knew she had put a ton of time and love into them.

I love, love, loved the glittery white frosting in these.
Summer had also made the rice krispies treats and chocolate covered strawberries in my two favorite decor colors; white and gold.
The doughnuts were another one of my favorites. I LOVE doughnuts, I prefer them over cake and pie. Our friend Noi had created these doughnuts adding gold “I do” lettering, white edible pearls, white frosting, and gold sprinkles. I wish I could have kept all of these pretty treats.
If you guys watch my IG stories you know I always keep a fresh bouquet of flowers in my house thanks to Steven. I love fresh flowers and can’t ever get enough of them. Since I had already pictured in my head what I wanted the flowers to look like, I was able to put together some last minute flower arrangements I had done myself by buying a few bunches of hydrangeas (my favorite) and a dozen white roses.
A few of my girlfriends have asked me how I made them and decided I would do a separate post for it.
Because I didn’t want any gifts, Chelsie thought it would be a fun-ny idea to gift me trashy lingerie only. When I found this out I was mortified. The thought of my girls and my moms buying me trashy panties had me shy af. Chelsie knows this about me which makes sense why she did it.
I could feel my face turning red and my ears getting hot with every gift. It seemed the more I opened the more trashy they would get. I had to just laugh to cover up how shy I was about all of these. My favorite one was the pineapple juice gift. My girl Veronica had given me a can of pineapple juice to go with this super raunchy fishnet number. I had to ask my friend Edie who’s a nurse if the pineapple thing was really true (it is btw). I came out of this party realizing I have some pretty freaky friends that I would never have guessed.

This gift was definitely a favorite. A set of wine glasses that had a thong in each. Creativity at it’s finest. Thanks Darryl!
I love how low-key this party was. No pressure to get super dressed up (y’all know I stay in my workout gear) or paying a venue a ton of money for a couple of hours (Cayden’s baby shower was in the thousands. Granted there were 80 people that showed up but you still have the minimum cost). I love how we could have the food I really wanted instead of having a set menu by a venue. Best of all, I love the intimacy of it. Only really close friends and family were invited.
By the end of the night I had to thank my best friend and as much as I tried to thug it out, I was in tears. I’m in shock that an eight month pregnant girl had taken all of this on by herself.
Chelsie, if you read this, thank you for always wanting the best for me. Thank you for forcing me to have the best bridal shower a girl could ask for even though I tried to fight you on it. I can sit here and say thank you a million times and it still wouldn’t be enough. There’s so much competition between females (which you know I don’t entertain) and there’s none between us. I’m so blessed to have you as a friend and a sister. I feel safe and loved with you and that is something hard to come by.
The Take Away
If you’re a bride-to-be, here’s my advice: Do things the way you want, your way. Don’t worry about what you see on Instagram. Don’t try to do the “trending” bridal festivities if you don’t want to. There’s so many people doing things for likes and tags that’s it’s more refreshing these days to see something different. If you’re on a budget, there are still ways to get cute Instagram pictures that you will get organic likes for. The thing about being on a budget is that it pushes you to be creative. The best things come from creativity.
I really admire Amrezy on how she decided to get married. She decided not to have a wedding or a bridal shower. She said she didn’t like the stress that came from thinking about it and I feel her. Instead, she bought two gorgeous wedding dresses and had the most amazing photoshoot. I’m under a lot of pressure and stress often as well so I’m 1,000% happy with the way everything turned out. Most of all, because I have amazing friends that genuinely love me and go out of their way to do things for me… And the best mama in the world!
To everyone that showed up, thank you. No seriously. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. You guys always show up for me and it made turning from a Miss to a Mrs. extremely fun and memorable. I will never forget it.
